REDDING, Calif. - The women's volleyball team dropped its season finale tonight against Cal Pac rival UC Merced, 3-0.
The Bobcats played spoiler for Simpson's senior night in what would be
Tiana Nihipali,
Kayla Somontan,
Emily Hansen, and
Mikaela Bredemann's last game in a Red Hawk jersey.
The Bobcats drew first blood as they took set one by the score of 25-23. The Red Hawks held a commanding 21-17 lead but an 8-2 Bobcat run proved fatal.
The Red Hawks responded back in set two by taking the first two points with the help of an opening kill by
Tiara Manns.
But it was all Bobcats after that as they went on a 13-2 run to create breathing room to take the set by the score of 25-16.
Simpson jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set thanks to kills by Manns and
Julia Zamfir.
The Red Hawks and Bobcats went toe-to-toe and exchanged rallies.
However, Simpson found itself on the wrong side of a 25-20 defeat.
Tiara Manns had a solid night registering a team-high 10 kills.
Madison Kammuller led the team on defense with 15 digs.
In the seniors' final game;
Tiana Nihipali recorded five kills and seven digs,
Emily Hansen posted five assists,
Kayla Somontan logged 16 assists and three digs, and
Mikaela Bredemann earned the start.
Simpson ends the year just missing the playoffs as they were eliminated yesterday with one game left to play.
Simpson is saying goodbye to four seniors:
Kayla Somontan,
Tiana Nihipali,
Emily Hansen, and
Mikaela Bredemann.
The Red Hawks will be returning a young squad next season as they try to make another strong push towards the Cal Pac tournament.
