Red Hawks Knock Off Pioneers

ANGWIN, Calif. - The women's soccer team continues to stay hot as they defeated Pacific Union College today, 3-1.

The Pioneers struck first in the 5th minute to grab the early 1-0 lead.

However, the Red Hawk's defense stifled the Pioneer attackers for the rest of the game as Simpson outshot PUC 12-8.

Goalkeeper Kiah Gridley settled in nicely as she recorded six saves on the day.

It was all Simpson after that as they scored three unanswered goals.

The first came from Morgan Durazo as she got the Red Hawks on the board in the 6th minute to tie the game at one.

Chloe Tague put Simpson up 2-1 in the 38th minute when she scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Simpson added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Denise Elias-Martinez found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

With the win, Simpson keeps pace with St. Katherine, Embry-Riddle, and UC Merced as they are in sole possession of 4th place in the Cal Pac standings.

Simpson will look to continue its dominance in conference play as they return home to take on Providence Christian College this Saturday at 5 PM at the California Soccer Park.

Simpson University's spirit club "The Red Sea" will be orchestrating a "Red Out" crowd for the men's and women's games.
