ATHERTON, Calif. - The women's basketball team opened its 2023-24 season on the road to take on Menlo College.

The Red Hawks and Oaks played a highly contested game with the Oaks coming out on top 64-59.

Simpson would go into the half trailing by just two points, 28-30. 

Hannah Parsons, Celina Tress, and Rory Hetrick highlighted the first quarter of the team's 15 points. 

Simpson got solid play from its bench as they outscored the Oaks bench 10-6 in the first half and 12-8 for the game. 

The Red Hawks played a solid second half and entered the fourth quarter with a 43-42 lead. 

But the Oaks prevailed and took the lead in the fourth as they held onto the 64-59 victory. 

Hetrick had a solid game as she led the team with 19 points going 9-17 from the floor to go along with six rebounds. 

15 of Hetrick's 19 points came in the second half. 

Reigning Cal Pac Newcomer of the Year Celina Tress had a nice 2023 debut as she recorded 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds. 

Simpson will hit the road to take on Cal Poly this Thursday at 11 AM.
