PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The women's volleyball team battled tough but fell short against Embry-Riddle in five sets yesterday.
The Eagles drew first blood as they took set one by the score of 25-19.
The Red Hawks answered back by taking set two by the score of 25-21. Embry-Riddle fought back late in the set by going on a 5-0 run to pull within three points.
But key kills by
Mallory Swenson and
Tiara Manns helped seal the second set.
Simpson held the momentum as they battled the Eagles tough through a rollercoaster third set as no more than four points separated the two teams.
Katie Graham sealed the deal with the final kill of the set to put Simpson up 2-1.
Embry-Riddle bounced back and took set four by the score of 25-21 to force a fifth set.
The fifth set was controlled by the Eagles as Simpson never captured any momentum. Embry-Riddle went on to take the fifth set by the score of 15-7 to close out the game.
Graham had quite the game as she recorded 13 kills and four block assists to go along with a .407 hitting percentage.
Swenson had a team-high 16 kills while Manns followed close behind with 10 kills.
The Red Hawks will return home and open its second round of conference play against undefeated Embry-Riddle on October 13th at 2 PM.
