REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawk women's soccer team finished the conference opening weekend with four points after facing La Sierra and SOKA.
In the conference opener on Friday morning, SU's
Haylee Ward opened up the scoring with a goal in the 11th minute assisted by
Caroline Forseth. La Sierra's Citlalli Pedraza equalized early in the second half, but Simpson took back the lead in the 70th minute on a
Kylie Carr goal, which was assisted by
Iris Van Dalfsen.
SU outshot the Eagles by two shots however, La Sierra had two more opportunities that ended in shots on goal, but KiahGridley recorded six saves in the victory.
Sunday's match against SOKA provided Simpson a chance at a 6-point weekend and a spot at the top of the table, but the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
Chances were plentiful for both teams to find the net, but both goalkeepers were able to keep the shutout intact. The Red Hawks had lots of opportunities with 21 total shots and 11 on goal but were never able to break through the SOKA defense.
KiahGridley recorded the Red Hawks' 5th clean sheet of the year for SU along with three saves.
Simpson is back in action on Sunday in Prescott, Arizona to take on Embry-Riddle with kickoff set for 1 PM.
