Tating Becomes Winningest Head Coach In Program History As SU Splits Series With USK

REDDING, Calif. - Head Baseball Coach, Dan Tating, passed the winningest head coach in program history on Friday after the wins against Saint Katherine, where the Red Hawks ultimately split the weekend.

Friday, the Red Hawks came out swinging, dominating the Firebirds with a total of 20 runs between the two games.

In game one, Saint Katherine got the scoring going, putting up one run in the top of the first. However, it would be the only lead they would hold in game one. Simpson answered by quickly taking the lead in the bottom of the second with a home run by Keelan Yagi that scored Jerry Zurita.

Four other home runs were hit for the Red Hawks, including two by Nate Minami and a grand slam by Jerry Zurita.

SU would go on to beat USK in game one in eight innings with a final of 18-8.

Game two was much of the same for Simpson.

Three Red Hawks hit homers, including Zurita hitting his third of the day and Minami hitting his third and fourth of the day.

USK barely had a chance to get on the board as SU finished them off in eight with a final of 13-3.

Saturday, Simpson struggled to get the bats going.

Game one was the only one that counted towards the conference record, where the Red Hawks fell, 8-4.

USK scored first in the top of the third, taking a three to nothing lead. Simpson answered back in the bottom of the inning with two runs, but it ultimately wouldn't be enough as the Red Hawks would only score two more times.

Game two, SU was only able to put up one run, falling 4-1.

The single run for the Red Hawks came off of a double by Jackson Grigsby that brought Nate Minami home.

Despite the tough Saturday for SU, Friday's two wins gave Head Coach, Dan Tating, a new title.

Tating is now the winningest head coach in program history.

This new milestone comes after this being just his third season as head coach.

In his time, Tating has turned the program around by leading the Red Hawks to their first winning season in 2020 and to the Cal Pac tournament the following year.

The Red Hawks will look to add more Cal Pac wins to their record as they hit the road to take on Westcliff on March 12th and 13th.
