IRVINE, Calif. - The Baseball Team spent the weekend in Irvine taking on Westcliff for the first part of their week long Southern California trip, where the Red Hawks came up empty, falling in all three games.
Saturday, SU kept it close, falling by only one.
The Red Hawks put up the first run of the game. In the top of the second,
Keelan Yagi hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring
Payton Edwards. They would go on to score two more runs, these coming in the top of the third.
Micah Kele doubled bringing in Nate Minami, followed by
Jerry Zurita singling to bring in Kele.
Simpson was able to hold off Westcliff until the sixth inning, when the Warriors put up two in the bottom of the inning and put up two more in the bottom of the eight.
The Red Hawks wee unable to regain the lead in the top of the ninth, ultimately falling with a final score of 4-3.
On Sunday, Simpson was able to put up runs, but struggled to keep Westcliff off the board.
The Warriors scored three runs in each of the first three innings, while the Red Hawks only got one.
SU was able to come within two in the top of the fourth, where they scored six runs.
It wouldn't be enough, however, as the Warriors took game one of the doubleheader, 16-8.
Game two was close in the beginning. Westcliff scored three in the bottom of the first with Simpson scoring three of its own in the top of the second. The Red Hawks scored two more in the top of the third, but the Warriors answered back with six runs in the bottom of the inning, and took off with the lead by scoring seven in the bottom of the fourth.
SU was unable to put up the runs to get the win, falling with a final score of 19-6.
The Red Hawks will play in the next part of the trip on March 15th and 16th, taking on Bethesda University in Anaheim.
