REDDING, Calif. - Men's Basketball has grabbed the first place position in the Northern Division of the Cal Pac, beating Cal Maritime with a final score of 71-63.
The Red Hawks took their home court for the last time this season on Wednesday night, proving they are a top team in the Cal Pac as the championship tournament nears.Â
SU got the scoring going, hitting the first five points of the game. The Red Hawks jumped out to a double digit lead in under eight minutes. The defense thrived, keeping the Keelhaulers under 10 points for more than half of the first 20 minutes.Â
Going into halftime, Simpson was leading, 41-19.
The second half was a closer battle, the Keelhaulers clawing their way back to getting the game down to under a double-digit lead. However, the Red Hawks never gave in, pulling off the victory on senior night.
Gary Mims lead the night for Simpson with 19 points and two steals.
JT Branch tallied 15 points with one steal and one block.
Anthony Rice put up 10 points and had one steal.
The Red Hawks will hit the road for their final game of the season before the conference tournament. They will face UC Merced on February 27th at 7:30 PM.
