IRVINE, Calif. - Simpson University Women's Basketball dropped its first conference game in a close contest to Westcliff University.
The Red Hawks' three-game winning streak was snapped after losing the competitive game, 56-54. Westcliff had been on a dominating four-game win streak of their own, blowing out their past two opponents.
Sandra Berrocal led the team with 13 points and went 4-4 from the free throw line. Celina Tress would follow with 12 points on the day and snatching 12 rebounds.
Simpson started out the game strong taking a 7-point lead at the end of the first quarter and the game remained competitive up until the final moments. Berrocal tied the game 54-54 with 2:27 left in the 4th quarter. Westcliff would go on to hit one more layup to seal Simpson's fate.
Simpson will travel to San Marcos to face St. Katherine University this Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4:00 pm.
