REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks could not find their groove against Menlo losing 72-58.
Simpson played Menlo without its leading scorer, Celina Tress. The Red Hawks needed to find a way to fill the gap between Tress' 63% field goal percentage and the 14 points she averages per game.
The Red Hawks went down big after the first two quarters trailing 48-23. Simpson went on a late run outscoring Menlo 35-24 in the last two quarters, but it still was not enough for them to flip the lead.
Sandra Berrocal led Simpson with 14 points and went 2-2 beyond the arc. Tymiko Patterson dropped 10 and was perfect on the free throw line going 3-3.
After this non-conference loss, Simpson still holds the third spot in the Cal Pac standings. The Red Hawks look to continue their conference success as the rest of their schedule is set up against Cal Pac opponents.
SU plays today at home vs. California Maritime Academy at 4:30 pm.
