ROCKLIN, Calif - Men's basketball failed to get back into the win column after losing to William Jessup, 94-74.
Simpson basketball was without two of its normal starters,
Gary Mims and
Javonntie Jackson.
Akin Branco and
Daylon Potts filled in and did a good job taking over the starter roles as Branco led the team in points and Potts led in rebounds.
Simpson scored the game's first points with a layup from
Aaron Burt, but William Jessup quickly overtook the lead as the Red Hawks struggled to take it back.
The Red Hawks could not find a way to slow down William Jessup as they went down by 10 points going into the second half.
Akin Branco and
Aaron Burt were the team's leading scorers with 25 and 19 points. Branco put up seven field goals and went 10/14 on free throws. Defensively, Branco had two blocks and three steals.
Coach
Todd Franklin stated, "I know the score doesn't show it but I was actually pleased with how we competed. We got some really good minutes out of everyone tonight and will be able to build on the effort we showed, despite missing three key players."
Men's basketball will travel home and face California Maritime Academy on Dec. 31 at 6:30 pm to start their four-game home stretch.
