REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University Women's Basketball took to the hardwood for the first time in the 2022-23 season to face Bethel College out of Kansas.
It was also the return of Simpson alum and former Simpson women's basketball coach Derrick Pringle Jr.Â
The Red Hawks solid defensive effort shined in the Simpson 69-54 win over the Threshers. The second and third quarters were the biggest factors for the Red Hawks, as they were able to go on various runs to outscore the Threshers 39-24 in those two periods.
Celina Tress led the Red Hawks offensively with 17 points and and six assists while
Sandra Berrocal added 14 points and five rebounds. Simpson's defensive pressure forced Bethel into 23 turnovers which led to 25 points.
The Red Hawks under Head Coach Edgar Mendez begin their 2022-23 campaign 2-0 after a dominant victory over Bethesda last weekend. They will look to continue their hot start as they will face Cal Poly on the road in San Luis Obispo on Thursday, November 10th.
