REDDING, Calif. - After a few postponed games due to COVID protocols with other schools, the Men's Basketball Team played their first conference game of the 2021-22 season, topping the University of Antelope Valley, 74-64. 

It was a back and forth battle in the first few minutes of the game, each team taking the lead before the Pioneers pulled away. 

But the Red Hawks battled back in the last 10 minutes of the first, cutting what was at one point a 13 point Pioneer lead, down to just three points going into halftime. 

SU went into the second half with a new fire under them as they tied the game within the first 50 seconds and took the lead a little over a minute later. They would go on to have a 13 point run, leading UAV by 10 after less than seven minutes of second half play. 

Simpson's scoring was too much for Antelope Valley, as the Red Hawks never gave up the lead in the second half. 

SU would go on to beat UAV for the first time in over four years, nine meetings between the two, with a final score of 74-64.

Gary Mims lead the Red Hawks in scoring with a season high 29 points and six threes. JT Branch scored 14 points with three blocks and three steals. 

The Red Hawks will get one day before they take the court again on Monday, January 17th. They will host La Sierra at 7:30 PM.
