SANTEE, Calif. - Simpson University softball completed the Cal Pac Tournament Monday after being defeated by the champions, University of Saint Katherine.
The Red Hawks opened up the tournament as the top seed and dominated against BenU Mesa due to a 5 inning shutout by
Kylee Potes, helping give SU a 8-0 win.
In game two of the double-elimination tournament, SU was shutout against USK in the winner's bracket game and would have to win three consecutive games to be crowned the champions.
Simpson did win one more game, again beating BenUÂ 10-1 before eventually losing in the championship game to the University of Saint Katherine, 5-2.
The Red Hawks on the season are 26-15 overall and 14-2 in conference play and entered the Cal Pac Tournament receiving votes in the NAIA Softball Coaches Top 25 Poll and will now await their fate for receiving an at large bid to the Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament.
