GILBERT, Ariz. - Simpson University softball red hot second half of the season continues extending the win streak to 10 games and making it over 45 days since their last loss. The Red Hawks won games one and two of the four-game series with Park Gilbert, 2-1, 11-2.
Sydney Moorhead spun a gem in game one, scattering five hits and only allowing one run in the complete game victory. Eight different Red Hawks recorded hits in the series opener including
Marissa Ramirez and
Madison Greco, who each knocked in a run in the win.
In game two, the bats came alive as Simpson exploded for 11 runs, eight of which came in the final two innings. Combined with the Red Hawks offensive showing was a great performance from
Kylee Potes who tallied the complete game win while only allowing five hits and two walks.
Three Red Hawks notched two hits in game two:
Cailey Rizzardo,
Marissa Ramirez, and
Alexis Zamora. Rizzardo drove in four runs leading the club while
Ashley Miller and
Reina Tsuma each drove in two.
Simpson has peaked at the right time with the Cal Pac Championship Tournament next weekend and not only are the Red Hawks the top seed in the tournament, but are the heavy favorites having only one loss in conference play. SU also remains the only team in the conference that is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll.
