SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Simpson University men's and women's basketball head to San Marcos this week to compete in the Cal Pac hosted NAIA Qualifying Tournament at University of Saint Katherine.
Â
Three teams that have been fitting games into a gap-filled schedule over the past four months will converge at USK to determine which team will advance to the national tournament. In addition to the host Firebirds, Benedictine-Mesa and Simpson will compete in a three-day round robin tournament to determine which team will represent the Cal Pac in next month's Opening Round.
Â
The 2021 qualifying event will determine the Cal Pac NAIA automatic qualifier. Each team will play the other team once, and the team with a 2-0 record will receive the conference's automatic bid to the national tournament, which will begin on March 12-13 with Opening Round games at various campus sites to be determined by NAIA seeding. The National Championship Tournament will be held March 18-23.
Â
If all teams finish with a 1-1 record, the NAIA qualifier will be determined by best aggregate point differential (point margins of both games combined). If there is still a tie, the result of the head-to-head contest will determine the qualifier. If all three teams have the same margin, the NAIA N.E.T. formula shall be used to determine the qualifier (using the official NAIA calculation form).
