MERCED, Calif. - SU men's soccer fell to UC Merced in the first round of the Cal Pac Championship tournament, 1-0.
The Red Hawks earlier in the season beat the Bobcats for the first time in program history but were unable to prevail in the close match. Merced was able to get the lone goal in the match right before the halftime whistle when Andres Lua scored in the 45th minute.
The match was a physical one with many yellows and even two red cards. Both teams recorded eight shots on goal for the match, but Merced had a slight edge on corner kicks and overall shots.
The Red Hawks finish their season 10-7-1, but again with an impressive season and lots of excitement building towards the program's success the past two seasons.
The Cal Pac Conference has become an extremely talented conference the past few seasons and now has two bids to the national tournament to show for it. The Red Hawks will regroup and look to continue their rise in the program in 2022.
