COSTA MESA, Calif. - Simpson women's basketball's non-conference schedule has been full of juggernauts in the early season.
The second half of a back-to-back against 10th ranked Vanguard University was more of the same as the Lions suffocating defense was able to force Red Hawks turnovers.
Simpson's defense was strong once again forcing 15 turnovers and holding Vanguard to just eight points in the fourth quarter.
Nikki Thompson led the Red Hawks in scoring for the second consecutive night with 11 points with
Sandra Berrocal and
Ellie Hamel each pouring in eight points.
A cold shooting night handicapped the SU offense as the Red Hawks finished the night at 29 percent from the field.
Head Coach Derrick Pringle Jr is pleased with his team's focus, "We played with better effort and intensity tonight," he said, "I love how this group fights and the progress we are making. Even though we lost, I felt we improved from yesterday's game."
Simpson will continue its tough non-conference schedule against Portland State University on February 8th with tipoff set for 7 pm.
