Red Hawks Unable to Prevail In Defensive Battle with COI

CALDWELL, Idaho - Despite a great defensive effort from the Red Hawks, they fell to the College of Idaho Yotes, 53-36.

SU's slow start in the first quarter made climbing out of an early deficit difficult and was unable to get into a rhythm against a talented Yotes' roster.

The Red Hawks continue to be rock solid defensively, holding COI to a 36 percent shooting clip from the field, and were able to get into the passing lanes forcing 24 turnovers.

Head Coach, Derrick Pringle Jr. discussed his teams' passion on defense, "I felt our defense once again kept us in the game. We did a great job of forcing turnovers and forcing College of Idaho into tough spots. Overall I am pleased with our effort and we are starting to come up with our identity as a team," Pringle states.

It was an off-shooting night for Simpson only connecting on three trifectas in 18 attempts but stayed in the game due to their defensive prowess. SU had a difficult matchup in the paint in COI's Lexi Mitchell who notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

SU was led offensively by Brianna Clark with nine points and three steals to go along with two assists. The bench had a significant impact for Coach Pringle's club coming through for 16 points.
"Even though we didn't get the result we wanted," Pringle says, " I do feel like we are headed in the right direction going forward."

In Simpson's first four games, they have held teams to an average of just 68 points and the ability to count on the defense has become one of the Red Hawks' main assets.

SU will be back in action Friday, February 5th at home against La Sierra University. Due to state and county guidelines, no fans will be permitted for the event.
