REDDING, Calif. - Simpson women's basketball drops home opener 80-49 to William Jessup University, Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Strong First Quarter
The Red Hawks got off to a quick 7-3 lead after junior Tymiko Patterson hit a top of the key three at the 7:23 mark. William Jessup would trim the lead to two on an offensive put back by Miranda Zaragoza (7-5). Both teams would go back and forth the rest of the quarter. A two point bucket by sophomore Brianna Clark at the end of the quarter would give the Red Hawks a 11-8.
Too much size
The Warriors size would be a key factor in the rest of the game, out rebounding Simpson 45-24. Zaragoza and Paige Winter both combined for 11 points in the paint and 12 for 13 from the free throw line.
Clark and Thompson shine in the second half
Clark would score 8 of her 10 points the second half and finished with a team high four assists. Freshman Nikki Thompson scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half and pulled down five rebounds.
