Red Hawks Grind Out Seventh Conference Win Against PUC

Presnell's 26 points lead SU as they defeat the Pioneers 80-72.

REDDING, Calif. – The Red Hawks faced a nine-point deficit at the half, but SU would rally back to take the lead and grind out the win Thursday night at home.

PUC started the game hot, forcing Head Coach Todd Franklin to burn some timeouts early in the first half. Despite the deficit SU stuck to their game plan and slowly cut into PUC's lead at the start of the second.

A Dylan Banks triple turned the tides for SU as they took their first lead of the half five minutes into the second. SU would go on a quick 9-0 run including the Banks three to take the lead and never look back. PUC tried to keep things close but with a nine-point lead with 75 seconds left it came down to free throws and clock management for SU. The Red Hawks get the victory 80-72, while keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Nathan Presnell showed out on Senior night to secure the W for his senior teammates. The Freshman scored 26 points on 11-21 shooting to go alongside seven boards in the win.

Seniors Kon Anguik, Harvey Barr, and Blake Trent all played well following their pre-game recognition. Anguik posted 12 points and seven rebounds, shooting an efficient 2-3 from beyond the arc. Trent added 11 points and five rebounds. Barr was a few rebounds away from a double-double with 11 points and 7 boards.

Dylan Banks was the only SU starter to not score double-digits, but he was essential to the team's scoring with a game high seven assists. Banks recorded nine points and four rebounds to go along with the dimes.

Brycen Wight and Zach Burns were the key players off the SU bench. Wight was huge for SU down the stretch, providing defensive stops and proving to be a back-up ball handler when SU's guards were denied late in the second half. Wight ended with eight points and seven rebounds. Burns ended the night with three points and four rebounds.

The Red Hawks have just two games remaining before the Conference Tourney begins. SU will face La Sierra on Thursday and Antelope Valley on Saturday, Simpson will travel for both of the final contests.
