PORTLAND, Ore. - Simpson University softball finishes at a tough NCAA DII tournament at 2-2.
The Red Hawks narrowly beat two tough opponents in Western Washington University, 6-4, and Northwest University, 2-0.
Sydney Moorhead got the wins in both games, coming in out of relief against WWU and recording the complete game shutout against Northwest. Moorhead threw an absolute gem against the Eagles only allowing two hits and fanning 11 Northwest batters en route to the 2-0 win.
Simpson's lineup began the weekend red hot with 12 hits in the game one win against Western Washington as a 2-5 outing from
Emily Fuller and 4-5 performance from
Madison Wright were some of the highlights of Red Hawks first win of the weekend. In the Red Hawks other win this weekend, they manufactured two runs despite only recording one hit in the pitchers duel between Moorhead and Hawley from Northwest University.
SU ran into some trouble with Central Washington University as the Wildcats offense was relentless reaching base on nine hits and eight walks resulting in 12 runs in the game ending in five innings and also fell just short to Saint Martin's in 6-5 loss.
With the weekend's weather being unpredictable, Simpson had its double-header with Corban cancelled on Monday and the final game of the weekend cancelled against Lewis and Clark College.
The Red Hawks now sit at 10-6 on the season and will continue their road trip facing top NAIA team, Menlo College next.
