Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short to Embry-Riddle

LANCASTER, Calif. - Simpson men's basketball was eliminated from postseason contention on Sunday night after falling to Embry-Riddle, 75-72.

The Cal Pac semifinal game didn't tip-off until 9:30 pm after an hour and half delay because one of the rims was ripped off the backboard. After both rims were changed, the game finally got underway, but both teams struggled offensively in the first half as the Eagles led 37-24 at the intermission.

Embry-Riddle ended up leading by as much as 17 early in the second half, before Simpson came marching back to take a four point lead with six minutes left, 68-64. But, the Eagles' veteran starters executed down the stretch by knocking down key free throws and taking care of the ball to pull out the win.

It was the final career game for Jalen Cooper, Brandon Moss, Aaron Berry, and Jon Manjon. Jalen Cooper played outstanding in his final game tallying 16 points and nine rebounds in all 40 minutes. Berry woke up in the second half ending up with 18 points and six boards.

Blake Trent did not take a two-point shot nor did he get a breather as he shot 5-14 from beyond the arc for 15 points in all 40 minutes. JT Branch was the only other Simpson player in double figures finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Red Hawks had another incredible season trending upward with another six win improvement in a 17-11 campaign in Todd Franklin's second season as the SU head coach.
