Softball Splits with Concordia and Oregon Tech

REDDING, Calif. - The start of the 2019 season is one of the toughest schedules Simpson University Softball has ever had to begin a season with. Multiple ranked opponents including Corban University (16) and now Oregon Tech (10) and Concordia University (OR) (NCAA DII) have made the trip to Redding to take on the Red Hawks. This weekend Simpson split a pair of two game series' with Oregon Tech and Concordia.

A weekend full of freezing cold weather and time changes due to the rain and wind, SU beat Concordia 6-1 and then fell to Oregon Tech, 6-3 on Saturday.

Sydney Moorhead tallied the win against the Cavaliers, pitching all seven innings without giving up an earned run. Offensively, Gentry Hoffman was a juggernaut going 2-2 with 2 RBIs including a solo homerun to help give Simpson the win. Oregon Tech's 12 hits in game two was enough to push across six runs, four coming in the 3rd inning. Despite the Red Hawks tallying eight hits, they couldn't string them together, ultimately falling 6-3.

On Sunday, in game one, Simpson was blanked by Concordia until the bottom of the 7th inning and again allowed 12 hits and six runs, in the 6-1 loss. The Red Hawks bounced back to take down Oregon Tech in a 1-0 pitcher's dual that was won by Simpson ace, Sydney Moorhead.  Moorhead threw a complete game shutout only allowing four hits and striking out five. SU only mustered together four hits, but an RBI single by Ashley Oakley brought home the lone run of the game.

Simpson now sits at 3-3 after the weekend and will play host to a round robin with Eastern Oregon and William Jessup at Simpson University beginning on Feb. 16th at 10 am.
