Tale of Two Halves as Simpson Falls to Westcliff

REDDING, Calif. – It was a tale of two halves for the Red Hawks on Friday night as the Simpson Women's Basketball team took on the Westcliff Warriors from Irvine, Calif. The Red Hawks marched back from a deficit at the half, outscoring their opponent 35-28 in the second period, but were ultimately unable to complete the comeback.

Simpson faced a ten-point deficit after two but Head Coach Derrick Pringle Jr. was able to rally the troops in the locker room. The Red Hawks offense exploded in the third quarter and their defense forced timely stops, quickly erasing the deficit. Precious Jackson hit back-to-back jumpers in the corner to swing the momentum in Simpson's favor. The efficient lineup of Alex Cooper, Precious Jackson, Brianna Clark, and Whitney Armstrong stepped up the defense and helped to turn things for SU, scoring 19 of the teams 23 points in the quarter.

The Red Hawks took a two-point lead in the third, but ended the quarter trailing by three. That result would stick throughout the fourth as Red Hawks traded buckets with the Warriors. Freshman Guard Brianna Clark added six more points in the fourth to keep things close but the Red Hawks would fall to the Warriors 51-48.

Senior Alex Copper was one bucket shy of a double double, bringing down 14 boards along with her eight points.  Clark led the Red Hawks in scoring with 12 and 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

The next action for Simpson will again be in front of their home crowd on December 14th against Oregon Tech at 6:00 PM.
