Redding, Calif. - The Red Hawks took to the floor of the James. M Grant Center Friday night to take on the West Coast Baptist Eagles. Simpson would go on to defeat the Eagles 90-74 with four players scoring in double figures.
The Simpson starting five stayed as consistent as they have been early on this season, stepping out to a quick five-point lead. Freshman
Nathan Presnell, who has been on a scoring tear as of late, scored the first five points for the Red Hawks. An open three for
Kon Anguik, an easy layup off a solid offensive set for 7'0" Senior
Harvey Barr, and some more Presnell buckets had Simpson up by ten points halfway through the first. The Red Hawks took a 14-point lead twice in the first half but would head to the locker room up by 10.
Not much changed for the Red Hawks in the second half as the Eagles were unable to cut into the deficit. Simpson would take their biggest lead of the game, 29, with just under five minutes remaining in the second half, going on to win 90-74.
Similar to the Red Hawks other W's this season, the starting unit provided a spark and players off the bench fit seamlessly into the lineup to keep things rolling. SU looked dialed in offensively with 12 players scoring on the night. The Red Hawks assisted on 22 of their 33 field goals with
Dylan Banks leading the team in the category for the third time in the last five games.
Nathan Presnell added 23 points and eight rebounds, his third 20-point performance of the season.
Harvey Barr added a double-double for SU registering 11 points along with 11 boards.
Kon Anguik poured in 12 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Brycen Wight also shined for the Red Hawks, adding 13 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Simpson advances to 6-3 on the season and gets to enjoy a 10-day break before heading to Ashland to take on the Southern Oregon University Raiders on the 16
th of December. The game against SOU will be the first of four remaining non-conference games while the Red Hawks gear up for Cal Pac Competition kicking off early January.
