Women's Basketball Splits Games in Cattle Classic

11/02/19

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEWARD, Neb. - The Midwest non-conference road trip for the Red Hawks can be considered a success after Simpson women's basketball split its two games in the Cattle Classic.

After dropping the tournament opener to top ranked Concordia University on Friday night, the Red Hawks rallied just hours later to pick up their first victory of the 2019-2020 campaign.

Simpson knocked off Doane University and led from the opening tip-off and never looked back.

In just 18 minutes, Samarra Fernandez notched a team-high 14 points and was a difference-maker when on the floor. Depth was a factor for the Red Hawks as 10 different SU players found their names on the score sheet.

Alli Ramelli recorded a double-double in the win with 13 points and 11 boards while receiving All-Tournament team honors at the Cattle Classic.

SU attacked the offensive glass pulling down 19 offensive rebounds that resulted in 27 second chance points. Simpson's outstanding defense forced 28 turnovers and 27 points off turnovers.

The Red Hawks led by as much 22 points before Doane cut into the lead late in the 3rd quarter and into the 4th.

Simpson will travel back home for a matchup with Southeastern University in the James M. Grant Center at 6 PM.
