SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Simpson University men's wrestling fell to Sacramento City College on Wednesday evening on the road, 33-18.
The Red Hawks have been plagued by injuries in the early season and had to forfeit in the 141 pound weight class.
Armand Molina in the 149 lbs. class was up 13-3 on his opponent before pinning him in the first round to get Simpson a bout victory after Chris LaCayo and
Silas LaGroue dropped the night's first two faceoffs.Â
In the 157 pound weight class,
Esteban Molina squeaked out a 7-6 victory after a long fought battle. The next three weight class' bouts went in favor of the Panthers, but
Jacob Gonsalves rallied for Simpson and wrestled an impressively strategic match against an aggressive opponent and eventually got the pin in the third round.
The final bout of the night was the 285 lbs. weight class and
Erick Sanchez picked up the Red Hawks' final victory of the night at 7-6.
The Red Hawks season will continue shortly as the program receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll will compete against Menlo College at home on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 PM.
