MEDFORD, Ore. - In game two of the Opening Round, the Red Hawks fell to the No. 2 seed, St. Francis (Ill.) 3-2.
Simpson started game two offensively almost identically as they did against SOU; as
Mia Olvera drove home
Mazzie Davies with a two out RBI double in the first inning. Simpson starter,
Hailee Nichols was brilliant in her 6.2 innings of work, allowing just the three runs against one of the top ranked offenses in the nation.
The Red Hawks trailed 3-1 heading into the 7th and rallied to cut the lead to one and got the tying and go-ahead run in scoring position, but were unable to bring either home.
St. Francis eliminates Simpson and will advance to another elimination game against Northwestern.
Head Coach,
Wayne Stower, finishes his 10th season all with at least 30 wins or more. The Red Hawks say good-bye to only three seniors:
Rachel Esse,
Tayler Zazueta, and
Hailee Nichols, but have loads of talent returning.
All in all, another successful season for the Red Hawks, and with lots of youth, Simpson will likely be back to the Opening Round for another chance of advancing to the World Series.
