VALLEJO, Calif. - In one of the toughest places to play on the road, the Simpson Red Hawks never trailed in an impressive performance in the 83-71 road win against Cal Maritime.
After nearly two full weeks of practice, the Red Hawks looked locked in from the tip in Vallejo as Simpson jumped out to a 9-0 lead within a blink of an eye. The hot start continued in Simpson's favor as the Red Hawks led by as much as 19 one point and headed into the locker room, 45-32.
Maritime would not go down without a fight, scratching and clawing their way back to cut the lead to four, but Simpson rallied right back to hold off the Keelhaulers in the 83-71 win.
Simpson's defense continues to be a pillar in its early season success. All five starters finished in double figures and all nine players who saw floor time got in the score column. SU was led by
Aaron Berry, who had one of his best games of his career with 22 points and 9 of 11 from the floor.Â
JT Branch and
Jon Manjon blocked and altered numerous shots combining for five blocks keeping the paint locked down defensively.
The Red Hawks impressive start to the season continues improving to 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Cal Pac. Simpson will take on Southern Oregon University on Monday, December 10th at 7:30 pm in Ashland, Ore.
