ENCINITAS, Calif. - Simpson women's basketball recorded a sweep this weekend on their two-game Southern California road trip, totaling 146 points between both games, and holding their opponents to under 100 combined points.

On Saturday, the Red Hawks were in Irvine to face Westcliff University for the second time this season. Much like the first time these two teams played each other, SU quickly jumped out to a lead and never let it falter. The Warriors were outscored in three of the four quarters. At one point during the fourth quarter, the Red Hawks were leading by 17. They ultimately pulled out an 11 point win with a final score of 76-65.
Â
Nine players got on the scoreboard, led by Precious Jackson recording a season-high 22 points. On defense, four players recorded steals. Alex Cooper, Precious Jackson, and Alli Ramelli all had two apiece.
Â
On Sunday, Simpson traveled an hour south to San Marcos where it faced its second opponent of the weekend, the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds. Domination would be an understatement, as SU's defense held Saint Katherine to just 31 points while the offense outscored them in all four quarters. The Red Hawks went on several scoring runs, beginning with a nine to nothing run to start the game. They also had a 10-0 run in the second quarter as well as two great runs in the third, 14-0 and 10-0.
Â
Sunday's scoring leaders were Shayla Smothers with 15 and Madison Cox with 12. The defense brought the house down with 10 steals and 37 defensive rebounds.
Â
The Red Hawks will be back on their home court on December 29th to face Yellowstone Christian College at 7PM. This comes before the meat of the conference schedule starting on January 3rd, at home, against Benedictine University at 5:30.
