REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University women's basketball fell behind by 10 points in the first half and 12 points in the second half, but didn't give up taking the lead late into the 4th quarter.
Despite struggling with taking care of the ball, Simpson's stellar defense kept them around and within striking distance. When the offense got hot, the defense followed suit allowing the Red Hawks to climb back into the contest.
Simpson was able to take the lead late in the 4th quarter with a couple of big buckets by
Madison Cox.
Southern Oregon had the ball for the final possession when a questionable foul was called that sent SOU to line with .4 seconds left. Destinee Jones made one of two free throws to seal Simpson's fate.
The Red Hawks received good outings from
Estella Gutierrez,
Madison Cox, and
Blanca Casamort Vila, all in double figures in scoring. Cox recorded her second straight game without missing a field goal, going six for six along with 10 rebounds.
Simpson remains 3-2 on the season and will look to improve on that Thursday, Nov. 8th at 6 pm against Northwest Christian.
