ATHERTON, Calif. - Simpson University baseball began its 2018 season with a 6-5 victory on the road over the Menlo Oaks.

Red Hawk ace, Colin Bovee notched the win and the quality start throwing five innings and giving up just three runs while Alfred Souza recorded the save.

Simpson struck first in the top of the first for two runs as Wilson Kessel singled home Derick Kuhn and then Thomas Ahlstrom scored on a fielder's choice giving the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead. The Oaks would quickly counter in the with two runs of their own to tie the game at 2-2.

In the 3rd inning, Derick Kuhn scored another run, this time off of a single from Dillon Klement to give Simpson a 3-2 advantage. After Menlo tied the game in the 3rd, Simpson again had an answer with two more runs in the 4th and then another in the 7th that would be enough to hold off the Oaks.

Game Notes:
Derick Kuhn tallied two hits and a walk and came around to score twice in the victory.
Wilson Kessel recorded three hits and a game-high two RBIs.
This win marks his second straight opening day win.
This win marks the first win against Menlo since 2011.
