REDDING, Calif. -- Head Coach
Caleb Ikwuagwu claimed his first career victory Saturday afternoon as Simpson defeated Maritime 9-1.
After a slow start to the season the Red Hawks were in need of a win coming into the match against the visiting Keelhaulers. They found their groove early asÂ
Arthur Omar Leal-Contreras scored in the third minute. Just two minutes later another one would find its way into the back of the net after an own goal by Maritime.
Tayler Sherman would add to the Red Hawks lead in the seventh minute with a goal of his own and Simpson was just getting warmed up.
The Red Hawks would continue to score finishing the half ahead 6-1 after goals by
Solomon Dutton, and two by
Cameron Keating. They would add three more in the second half as Captain
Bradley Manivong would add one of his own and both Dutton and Leal-Contreras each scored for a second time. The Red Hawks defense stifled the Keelhauler offense allowing just six shots on goal.
Tristan Webb would finish with four saves and
Gabe Coleman finished with one.
Simpson looks to build on this victory as they travel to Southern California to face off against University of Antelope Valley at 3:30pm on October 7th.
