MESA, Ariz. -- The Red Hawks took on Benedictine-Mesa in two more games today falling 6-5 and 16-6.
Game 1:
Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when Benedictine went up 2-0 on a double and a sac fly. The Red Hawks tied it up in the top of the 7th on a
Chase Dillon double to right that scored
Brett Komatsu and
Latrell Harris. But Benedictine responded and scored two more in the bottom of the 7th to make it 4-2. The Red Hawks plated one more in the 8th and two more in the top of the 9th to take the lead 5-4. But Benedictine rallied in the bottom of the 9th and scored twice on a walk-off home run for the second time in as many days.
Jared Bertotti went 3-4 scoring once and driving one in and
Collin Bovee took the loss for Simpson.
Game 2:
Benedictine used the momentum from the home run in game one to propel them in game two scoring 16 runs on 16 hits. The Red Hawks struggled with command allowing 9 walks along with two hit batsmen. Simpson couldn't find their timing against starting pitcher Daniel Tyler, stringing together four hits and scoring just once. They would, however, score 5 more runs on 6 hits against relief pitcher Garrett Gahan in the top of the seventh but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the onslaught brought on by Benedictine.
Latrell Harris went 2-2 scoring once and
Aaron Curfman went 2-4 driving in 3.
Alfred Souza IV took the loss for Simpson allowing 6 runs in just 3.1 innings of pitching.
The Red Hawks come back home to take on Marymount California University next weekend in a four game series starting at 12pm on Saturday.
