MERCED, Calif. -- In their final game of the season the men's basketball team rallied late but couldn't outlast the Bobcats.
After being delayed a day due to travel problems the Red Hawks got off to a sluggish start, trailing by as much as 16 in the first half. Simpson would battle back and lead by 12 with 13 minuted left in the game. But Merced would counter and with under three minutes left would take back control of the game, never to relinquish it again. The Red Hawks had an opportunity to tie with 17 seconds remaining but were unable to convert on two free throw attempts, eventually losing 64-61.
Josh Brakkee led all scorers posting a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Â
Sean Smith added 20 points of his own shooting 4-7 from beyond the arc while
Aron Rudd tallied 11 points for the Red Hawks.
Simpson finishes 4-10 in conference and 5-22 overall.Â
