Red Hawks Fight Hard Against Nationally Ranked SOU

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Simpson gave the No. 16 team in the country all it wanted Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Oregon Tech Classic. The Red Hawks fell to Southern Oregon, 82-65, but the final score does not indicate how tightly contested the game was played.

Midway through the second quarter and trailing by as many as eight points, a balanced Red Hawk attack sparked a 17-2 run giving SU a seven-point lead with four minutes left in the half. Back-to-back three-pointers by Natalie Campos and Samarra Fernandez gave Simpson its lead and the teams battled back-and-forth the rest of the half.

The Raiders took a 38-36 lead into the locker room and led 52-48 heading into the final quarter.

SOU opened the final period on a 9-2 run and kept the Red Hawks at arm's length the remainder of the game.

Fallon Greenhaw led a balanced attack with 11 points. Madison Cox and Lexi Thompson each added 10. Cox narrowly missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds. The Red Hawks outrebounded the Raiders 42-41 on the afternoon, but 26 turnovers doomed Simpson.

The Red Hawks will attempt to bounce back Saturday facing the host, Oregon Tech at 5:30 p.m.
