VALLEJO, Calif. - Consistent defense down the stretch for the Red Hawks was crucial in recording their first win of the 2017-18 season, 73-71. After giving up nearly 100 points per game through three games, Simpson locked down the Northwest University offense holding them to just 71 points.
The Red Hawks trailed by eight midway through the 2nd half before storming back to tie the game with two minutes to go. Jalen DuPree knocked down the biggest jumper of the night for two of his team-high 15 points to give the Red Hawks an edge late in the contest. Simpson then forced two turnovers to carry out the victory.
Another balanced scoring attack proved the versatility of the Red Hawks offense as five players were in double figures including Brandon Moss who finished 14 off the bench in only 18 minutes. In his first game in the starting lineup,
Aron Rudd tallied 11 points and five rebounds while
Josh Brakkee and Aaron Berry continued to score in double figures combining for 25 points.
This is the first career win for Head Coach,
Todd Franklin and his staff as they continue their tough non-conference schedule against Menlo College tomorrow in Vallejo at 5:30 pm.
