REDDING, Calif. - Simpson Red Hawks men's basketball loses in a heartbreaker to Benedictine, 101-96.
Simpson slips to 0-2 on the season after leading most of the second half before suffering a late run from Benedictine. Robert Kincade buried a three to put Benedictine up one with less than five seconds to go, after coming back from being down nine. Simpson countered with a huge lay-in from
Jalen Cooper, who had to go the length of the floor to score and send the game to overtime.
Simpson ran out of gas in the overtime period as Benedictine were able to knock down its key free throws to ice the game.
Benedictine finished with six players in double figures led by Monnard Brown, who finished with 21 points and 7 boards. Robert Kincade flirted with a triple-double recording 15 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Simpson received a big game from
Josh Brakkee, who led all scorers with 26 points and also brought down six rebounds.
Joseph Bosetti added 17 points before fouling out in the overtime period.
Simpson will get an extended break for the holidays and will return for 3-game road trip beginning with a matchup with La Sierra University on January 5th, at 7:30 pm in Riverside, Calif.
