Weaver is Entering his fourth year at Simpson University and his first as the head coach. He helped lead the Red Hawks to three consecutive Conference Tournament berths as an assistant and associate head coach from 2020-2023. Weaver was named the interim head coach in December 2022.
2022-2023: Took charge for one game as head coach Cornejo's absence, beating University of Antelope Valley 1-0. This marked the first time in program history that SU had defeated UAV at home.
2021-2022: Took charge for two games in head coach Cornejo's absence, beating Cal Maritime 3-0 and UC Merced 4-2. The win over UC Merced was the first in program history.
2020-2021: First season as an assistant. The team finished 9-4 which was the best record in over a decade while establishing the best winning percentage in program history (.875).
A former National Christian College Athletic Association all-American and California Pacific All-Conference selection, Gary Weaver returned to Simpson University as men’s assistant soccer coach in 2020.
In Weaver's first season as an assistant coach for the men's soccer team, the team finished with its best record (9-4) in over a decade and best winning percentage in program history.
As a player at Simpson from 2005-07, Weaver finished both seasons in the top 15 NAIA division 1 in goals and points scored per game. He was the first player on record from Simpson to be named NAIA region II national player of the week. Weaver was voted by his teammates as Rookie of the year following his freshman campaign and Most Valuable Player following his sophomore campaign. In two years at Simpson, Weaver scored 30 goals in 30 games played. He was named to the NCCAA all-American team and all California Pacific Conference 1st team following each season. His 30 goals scored is the most all time by an individual at Simpson competing in the NAIA Division 1. His 15 goals scored in a single season is also a school record since Simpson joined NAIA Division 1.
Gary Weaver is from Stockton, CA. Prior to attending Simpson, Weaver played in the Olympic Development Program. He was part of the California North State Team, West Regional Team, and U.S. Youth National Team.
Weaver holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Simpson University.
Previously, Weaver was the head boys varsity soccer coach at Kimball High School in Tracy, CA. During that time he also coached U15 and U16 boys club soccer for West Coast Soccer Earthquakes, under former U.S. International and San Jose Earthquake Troy Dayak. Weaver holds a National Diploma through United Soccer Coaches and a Grassroots License through USSF.
Weaver recently relocated to Redding from Stockton with his wife Jennifer and children Christian and Amora.
