REDDING, Calif. - The women's soccer team earned a hard-fought tie today as they took on Life Pacific University in a Sunday Matinee game.
The Red Hawks took the early lead in the 29th minute as
Maylania Mikaele took a throw-in from
Ellianna Keiser and took a shot that went off a Warriors defender to find the back of the net.
The score remained tied until the Warriors tied the game in the 49th minute on a long shot beyond the box from Nancy Hinojosa to tie the game. The Warriors kept rolling as they took the 2-1 lead in the 70th minute as Madison Cardena found the back of the net from a crossing pass from Kayley Buchanan.
With the minutes winding down, the Red Hawks caught a huge break as they benefited from a handball that led to a penalty kick opportunity.
Nadia Santiago took advantage with a successfully converted PK attempt to the top left corner of the net. This marked Santiago's second successful penalty kick on the season as she remains a perfect 2-2 this year.
It proved to be a clean game as no cards were issued, as both teams combined for 23 shots in the game.
Jenna Sosa earned a tie in the posts as she registered one save. Her counterpart, Natalie Ramana, notched three saves on the day.
The Red Hawks are back in action this Friday as they head to Southern Oregon to take on the Raiders at 11 am.
