REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks dropped their first CCC conference series today as they fell twice against No.4 OIT.
The story of the day belonged to the Owls' stout pitching as they allowed just one run while limiting the Simpson offense to just four total hits on the day. After back-to-back pitching duels in Friday's contests, the Owls' offense broke loose in day two as they compiled 20 runs on 24 hits in today's twin-bill.
The Red Hawks drew first blood in the first game of the day as they took advantage of a one-out hit-by-pitch to
Rebekah Millan as she came around to score on an OIT error.
The Owls broke through in the top of the third inning as Puakea Milbourne belted an RBI double into left-center to tie the game.
A bases-clearing RBI double by Gina Allen in the fourth inning gave Oregon Tech the 4-1 lead before Nita Cook doubled down the left field line to extend Tech's lead to 5-1.
Tech scored a pair of runs in back-to-back innings as they closed out the 9-1 victory in six innings to take the conference series 2-1.
Simpson's
Jacquelyn Lujan suffered the loss as she tossed 3.2 innings while allowing five runs before handing the ball to
Grace Chojnacki for the final 2.1 innings of work.
The Red Hawks posted three hits on singles by
Nicolena Holen,
Jordan Adami, and
Brianna Lopez-Cortez.
Oregon Tech's Kristine Schmidt earned the win as she fired the complete game, while Addison Kachnick notched three hits and Leah Huffman and Allen combined for five runs driven in, with each posting a two-hit game.
Game 2:
The Owls' offense kept rolling in game two as they took advantage of a Simpson error to plate five runs in the top of the first inning.
However, the Owls plated three more runs in the second and third innings as Malia Mick roped a two-run triple while Milbourne stroked a three-run shot to give Tech the commanding 11-0 lead.
Oregon Tech's starter, Carli Moore, notched the win as she fired a complete game shutout while allowing just one hit to Simpson's
Madison Chapman.
For the Owls, they scored 11 runs on 12 hits as Mick led the Owls with a three-hit three-RBI performance, followed by two-hit games by Hayden Rockwell and Milbourne.
Simpson used five different pitchers, but starter
Lily Rojas suffered the loss in 2.0 innings of work while allowing eight runs.
The Red Hawks are back in action next Friday as they continue conference play by welcoming No.2 in the nation Eastern Oregon for a four-game series beginning Friday at 2 pm.
