TURLOCK, Calif. - The men's baseball squad earned a four-game series split against Stanislaus State as they split the second day of play. They dropped game one 12-7 and took game four 11-2 with a huge eighth inning.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after two innings as they scattered eight hits, including four extra base hits off Simpson starter
Brendan Moore.
Simpson plated two runs in the third inning as
Eric Mora cashed in
Malachi Fuller's one-out single and
Mario Catalan picked up an RBI groundout.
The Warriors added two runs in the fourth and three in the seventh to take the commanding 12-3 lead.
Simpson did not go down without a fight as they plated four runs in the ninth on RBI singles by
Tyler Haruta and
Aden Munoz to go along with a two-run double by
JJ Torrente.
But the Warriors prevailed and held onto the 12-7 game one victory as Simpson's
Brendan Moore took the loss as he allowed seven runs in 1.2 innings of work before handing the ball to the Simpson bullpen.
Shortstop
Eric Mora led the Simpson bats with a three-for-five game, which included two RBIs and one extra base hit.
Game 2:
The Warriors took the lead in the second inning on a solo blast by Mason Kelley before a two-run double by
Cayden Lee in the third inning gave Simpson the one-run lead.
An RBI single by Bradley Lewis tied the game in the fourth as the Red Hawks and Warriors needed extra innings to break the tie in the seven-inning game.
The Warriors threatened in the bottom half of the seventh inning as they loaded the bases with just one out before
Chandler Jones danced out of danger while inducing a foul out and an inning-ending groundout.
The Red Hawks exploded in the top of the eighth inning for nine runs off eight hits while taking advantage of three Warrior errors.
Cesar Ortega,
Bo Valladao, Torrente, and Munoz each picked up RBI singles, while
Cayden Lee highlighted the inning as he posted a two-run double and an RBI single.
Lee led the Simpson bats with a three-hit performance, which included five RBIs, while Valladao posted a three-hit and one RBI game.
Jones picked up his first win of the year as he tossed 1.2 innings of shutout baseball.
The Red Hawks are back in action this Friday as they take on the Masters in a twin-bill that begins at 11 am.
