Red Hawks take the twin-bill from Sea Beggars

REDDING, Cali. - The Simpson baseball team took the twin-bill in today's doubleheader against Providence Christian, 7-4 and 13-3.

Simpson scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning as they plated two runs as back-to-back singles to lead off the inning by Aden Munoz and Andreyes Palacios came around to score.

However, the Sea Beggars took the 3-2 lead as they plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning before extending their lead in the seventh to 4-2.

The Red Hawks answered back in the bottom of the seventh inning as they plated four runs to take the 6-4 lead.

A leadoff double down the left field line by Jaxon Hotta followed by back-to-back walks to pinch hitter Brock Gilligan and Aden Munoz put ducks on the pond for Simpson.

Dylan Leek picked up the clutch two-out two-strike double on a sinking line drive down the left field line to give Simpson the 5-4 lead.

Mario Catalan picked up a huge insurance run on an RBI line drive into centerfield to score Leek from second base.

Reliever, Logan Boenker picked up the six-out save as he nailed down the 7-4 win while Gavin Hughes earned the win as he fired one inning.

Hotta and Munoz led the Simpson offense in game one as they each posted two-hit performances.

Game 2:

Starter Qorey Houston wiggled out of danger in the first inning as he worked around back-to-back singles to begin the game and stranded two runners on to keep the game scoreless.

A leadoff solo blast by Leek gave Simpson the early lead as the Red Hawks scored in the first four straight innings to begin the game.

Simpson extended its lead in the second inning as they plated one run on heads-up base running by Aden Munoz as he scored from second base on an RBI groundout by Manolo Tafolla.

Back-to-back solo blasts by Cayden Lee and Palacios highlighted the Red Hawks' two-run third inning to make it a 5-0 game.

Simpson put up a crooked number in the bottom of the fourth inning as the first six batters of the inning reached base safely.

A two-run single by Lee and a sacrifice fly by Munoz highlighted the four-run inning to give Simpson the 9-0 lead.

But the Sea Beggars made noise in the sixth and seventh innings as they plated three runs to make it a 9-3 game.

However, the Red Hawks ended the game in the seventh inning as Brayden Swenson picked up a huge two-run double down the left field line followed by an RBI groundout by Lee and capped off by a walk-off mercy rule sacrifice fly by Palacios to take the 13-3 victory.

Palacios led the team with a three-hit game followed by two-hit performances by Lee and Leek as they combined for five RBIs.

Houston had it working, as he tossed 5.2 innings of one-run baseball while striking out six Sea Beggars.

Simpson looks to sweep the series as the first pitch is set for noon.
