EUGENE, Ore - The baseball team concluded its four-game series yesterday in a twin-bill against Bushnell.
The Beacons jumped on starter
Chandler Jones for seven runs in the first three innings before Coach Tating handed the ball over to right-hander
Boston Souza.
The Simpson bats could not get it going against the Beacon's pitching as they posted two hits.
Joel Calderin owned the lone base hit of the game while
Brandon Zanni picked up a single.
The Beacons plated one run in the fifth and four more in the bottom half of the sixth to take game one in mercy rule fashion, 12-0.
The Red Hawks looked to earn the series split in game four behind senior
Nathan Palacioz.
Palacioz held the Beacon's offense at bay as he faced seven batters over the first two innings. He allowed no hits and struck out two Beacons.
However, Palacioz ran into some trouble in the third inning as walks, hit batsmen, and errors allowed the Beacons to put up a crooked number.
With its backs against the wall, Simpson plated one run in the top of the fifth inning to keep the game alive.
A leadoff walk to
Brock Gilligan came around to score on an RBI single by
Cayden Lee.
Bushnell held the Simpson offense in check over the last two innings to take the series win in a 10-1 game four victory.
Simpson looks to be back in action on Tuesday as they hit the road to take on Sonoma State at 11 am and 2 pm.
