SALEM, Ore. - The Red Hawks baseball squad traveled north to take on Corban University today in a twin-bill to start a four-game series.
The series moved to Salem, OR due to the heavy rains in Northern California this weekend.
Simpson looked to take game one behind starter
Nathan Palacioz who is coming off a strong start against #10 Arizona Christian last week.
The Red Hawks drew first blood in the first inning as a leadoff walk to
Joel Calderin came around to score on a bases-loaded wild pitch.
But the Warriors jumped on Palacioz as the Warriors plated five runs in the bottom half of the inning on four hits and one Simpson error.
Simpson tied the game in the top of the second inning as they plated four runs on three hits.
A one-out walk to
Brayden Swenson followed by a single by
Keelan Yagi and a walk to
Joel Calderin loaded the bases.
Mario Catalan notched a sacrifice fly while
Alex Tolbert picked up a huge RBI single capped off by a clutch two-out two-RBI double by
Bo Valladao.
Corban plated five runs in the bottom half of the inning and another run in the bottom of the third inning to take the 11-5 lead.
The Red Hawks chipped away as they plated one run in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by
Dominic Folks.
But the Warriors exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the commanding 17-6 lead to close out the game in mercy rule fashion in seven innings.
