REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men's wrestling team started their season yesterday at Shata Union High School, going 3-1 in Dual Meets. With victories over Sacramento State University (53-9), Menlo College Oaks (43-9), Santa Rosa College (26-26 win by tie breaker), and a loss to Fresno City College (30-9). The score does not do the team justice as the Red Hawks squad went the distance with hard-fought battles throughout the lineup.
Leading the day for the Red Hawks were:
Jay Everhart and
William Schwertscharf each went 4-0 on a perfect day.
Colton Silva and
Tomas Jacobo followed close behind with one blemish each for a 3-1 finish.Â
Ben Vega-Sanchez rounded out the group while going 2-0.
Our 2nd team went 2-1, defeating Shasta College (42-11) and Sacramento State (39-15) before falling to Sacramento City College (43-9).

Andres Garcia led the group with a 2-0 record on the day as
Benjamin Peralta,
Geovanni Bertolino,
Diego Galvan, and
Kyle Stevens stamped a 2-1 day on the mats.Â
The Red Hawk Freshmen and Sophomores travel next week to Fresno to wrestle in the Bill Musick Junior College tournament and will face off against the best JUCO teams in California.
