REDDING, California. - The men's wrestling team took on Sacramento City College tonight in a dual match.
Back-to-back technical falls gave the Panthers the early lead as
Phoenix Cruz and
Jay Everhart fell in the 125 and 133 lb weight classes.Â
Christopher Guizar got the Red Hawks on the board as he returned the favor with a tech fall to cut the Panthers' lead in half.Â
Colton Silva took part in a grueling fourth match of the night. But fell 2-1 in the 149 lb weight class as the Panthers extended its lead to 15-6.Â
The Red Hawks bounced back in the fifth match of the night as
Devonya Kee held onto the 16-9 major decision to pull the Red Hawks within five.Â
Senior
Carlos Martinez pulled off a gutsy win with a 1-0 decision victory to move Simpson within two points.Â
William Schwertscharf capped off three straight victories for the Red Hawks with a 10-2 major decision victory to give Simpson the 17-15 lead.Â
The Panthers answered back with a tech fall over
Carlos Rolando Mendez III in the 184 lb weight class to take the 21-17 lead.Â
Sac City clinched the match with a pin as
Xavier Areceneaux fell in the 197 lb weight class.
However, Simpson finished strong as
Benjamin Vega Sanchez earned the tech fall victory to close out the night.Â
The Red Hawks narrowly fell 27-22 as they celebrated their 12 seniors before the match.Â
Simpson looks to be back in action as they hit the road to they take part in the Spokane Open in Spokane, WA.Â
