REDDING, Calif. – The Simpson University men's basketball team tipped off its 2025–26 season with a strong 80–76 win over Nelson University–Arizona inside the James M. Grant Center on Saturday night.
The first points of the season came from senior guard
Nian Allen, who connected on a layup to put the Red Hawks on the board. Moments later, Allen also added a three-pointer with an assist from
Dylan Harms, giving Simpson an early spark.
Simpson continued to build momentum behind
Timothy Parker's inside presence, as he powered through the paint to help extend the early lead. The Red Hawks played with energy on both ends, forcing turnovers and creating fast-break chances while staying aggressive on the boards.
Carrying a steady rhythm on offense, Simpson entered halftime with the lead after a balanced effort from both guards and forwards.
Early in the second half, Parker finished through traffic for a layup that helped the Red Hawks maintain control. Allen later buried a three-pointer to keep the momentum going as Simpson continued to respond to every Nelson push.
The Red Hawks showed composure down the stretch, knocking down key free throws and securing important rebounds to close out the 80–76 victory.
Parker led the Red Hawks with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Allen followed with 20 points.
Aidan Rolfs anchored the defense with 11 rebounds and a steady inside presence throughout the night.
Simpson looks to build on its strong start Friday when the Red Hawks travel to face Montana State University-Northern at 2 p.m.
