MCMINNVILLE, Ore - The Simpson wrestling squad picked up action this past weekend as they participated in the Mat Cat Open held by Linfield University. 

William Schwertscharf highlighted the Red Hawk wrestlers as he extended his winning streak to 13-0 on the year with impressive wins over four opponents this past weekend.  

In the finals, Schwertscharf beat his Conference opponent Armando Nicacio (Corban) with a Major Decision of 11-3. 

 In the 133lb weight class, Freshman Arthur Para followed close behind as he fought hard in a big weight class that gave Parra plenty of competition after a long Christmas break. 

Arthur won his first four matches before his final match.  One mistake gave his opponent from Linfield University a quick near fall that Parra could not overcome.  

Coach Forseth liked what he saw out of his wrestlers coming out of the break. 

"Altogether our wrestlers had a good weekend and the Mat Cat Open was a good tournament to knock the rust off from the break."
